Indonesia believes that to ensure sustainable development, it is imperative to integrate the socio-economic and natural resources conservation and continous improvement of ecosystem quality. It is expected that through this development, the community welfare can be improved while addressing socio-economic and cultural aspects. The emergence of the new understanding, That economic deevelopment needs the sustainability of natural resources, provides hope in the realization of the biosphere concept of management in indonesia.
The Biosphere Reserve enables stakeholders to achieve stable and healthy economic development practices and strong positiv attitude in understanding the importance of natural resources conservation for the future of mankind.
The global challenges that the Giam Siak Kecil-Bukit Batu Biosphere Reserve initiative seeks to answer are:
accelerated climate change with adverse qonsequences to societies and ecosystems
accelerated loss of biological and cultural diversity that impact on the ability of ecosystems to continue to provide services critical for human wellbeing
rapid urbanization as a driver of enviromental change leading to degradation. The internasional program like “Man and the Biosphere” is designed to meet these challenges.

Regional focused projects are being launched around the world to seek and develop new methods and practices to preserve the quality of the natural enviroment for all humankind over the long term.

Future actions in Giam Siak Kecil-Buit Batu Biosphere Reserve to the climate change and MDG challenges are:
